To Live & Write in Alameda presents
the results of this year’s Imagine August writing challenge:
Dreamscapes
I really put the writers through the ringer this time.
Challenge:
1. Choose a subtheme.
2. Write a 1,000-word story.
3. Submit to a panel of judges pretending to be publishers.
4. Receive rejections and reasons for said rejections.
5. Rewrite the story according to what the “publishers” want.
6. Resubmit for final approval or refusal.
No one got it right the first time. Everyone exceeded expectations the second time.
I was super excited to celebrate with them and share their stories with a live audience inside my favorite bookstore, Books, Inc. Alameda, and again here on my website for one week.
It’s been a minute since we did a live lit night anywhere other than Zoom.
I’m so grateful for the 5-year run of lit nights and live audiences at Books, Inc. Alameda leading up to The Great Pivot of 2020 and I’m even more grateful for the opportunity to reboot next year.
Alameda Shorts will return next year!
Consider Dreamscapes a warm-up, a test-run, and a flirtation in the meantime.
