Time Zone
Describe your Work In Progress (WIP). Is it fiction, non-fiction, creative non-fiction, or memoir? Are you working on a book, a blog, a screenplay, or something else? What is your WIP's genre and subgenres (if you don't know, please say so, you won't be alone in this)? Which trope/s are you using?
*
Where are you with your WIP? Just beginning, elbows deep into it, finally finishing the first draft, or revising/rewriting?
Pace: How frequently do you want to submit new words? Submissions are due by midnight on Sundays. This commitment is fluid through the first month of the cycle.
Weekly
Bi-Weekly
Word Count: How many words are you going to share every time you submit? This commitment is fluid through the first six weeks of the cycle.
0-800 words
800-1500 words
1500-2500 words
Which group or groups would you like to be considered for?
*
Serial Collective: (default membership): Produce raw work for positive feedback - you want to establish and maintain a regular writing habit and develop your creative identity. You need the motivation and accountability right now more than you need to focus on editing and perfection.
Critique Pool: Submit polished work for critique - you sweat over the small stuff in your own writing and you're ready for serious eyes on your work. Your WIP has outgrown the need for positive feedback only. You want to submit to agents and publish your work soon.
Critique Pod: A subset of the Critique Pool that guarantees you will receive consistent critiques from the same two people every week, and that you will provide the same for them. You will provide critique or positive feedback for one additional writer outside your pod per each of your submissions as well. This pod works best when all three members share the same submission pace, word count commitment, or stage in their WIP development. This option is available to writers who have completed at least one cycle of The Serial Collective
Positive Feedback Pod: A subset of the Serial Collective that guarantees you will receive positive feedback from the same two people every week, and that you will provide the same for them. You will provide critique or positive feedback for one additional writer outside your pod per each of your submissions as well. This pod is ideal for writers producing new words or rewriting. This pod works best when all three members share the same stage of their WIP development--for example: generative writing vs established story. This option prioritizes writers who have completed one cycle of The Serial Collective.
Productivity Pod: A subset of The Serial Collective that supports the establishment of a stable and sustainable creative habit without overwhelming the writer with the thought of having to share their work with others for critique or positive feedback and/or provide critiques and positive feedback in return. This pod is ideal for writers who are working out the bare bones of their WIPs and know in their own bones that they're not ready for anyone else to read their work, but they want to be held accountable to a deadline and a private writing coach. Members of this pod have the option of booking two 30-minute 1:1 private sessions with writing + creativity coach Bronwyn Emery.
Would you like to participate in regular opportunities to discuss your work and the work of the other writers in the Serial Collective?
Yes, please
No, thank you
Have you participated in a writing group or sent books to beta groups before? What was that experience like for you? What worked for you and what did not?
All members of the Serial Collective give and receive meaningful reviews from at least three other writers per submission. Raw or rough work is entitled to positive feedback only, with one exception being in-person/online discussions, with the writer's permission. Cycle 3 will feature a positive feedback template for members to work with. Are you willing to follow this template every time you provide positive feedback for another member of the Serial Collective?
Are you able to participate in at least one Proof of Write before you review another writer's work? This is required so that each member of the Serial Collective has an opportunity to experience our culture and expectations around reviewing the work of other writers, before we begin the cycle.
Members who want to focus on craft can opt into the Critique Pool, where the commitment is to give meaningful critiques to at least three other writers per each of your submissions. This is a self-selecting process, and you might receive more or less than three critiques per submission. There is a critique template on the website for members to work with. If you would like to be in the Critique Pool, please share why you think your WIP is ready for the time and attention others will give to it.
Please share your bio here. This will be posted on your personal page, with a photo (sent separately, on request), and will be password protected - so don't get stuck here if you don't have something ready to go. Tell us a bit about what you write or plan to write, what you do for a living, and a friendly tidbit about yourself. (I am a cat lover and accomplished introvert herder).
